Hozuki nights and pocket notebooks
Also, the internet isn't what it seems.
I spent my entire day sitting in jury duty selections yesterday. I was secretly hoping it would be for some super cool case where I'd have to wear sunglasses and hide my identity as I'm escorted out of the courtroom past the television crews but that didn't end up happening. Instead they waited the full day before dismissing me. Oh well, maybe next time.

📇 Travelers Notebook - card size
Where to begin. This is a topic that's near and dear to my heart. A non-zero portion of my day is spent thinking about notes and note-taking systems. I've settled on a combination of digital reminders and long term projects in Obsidian with daily to-dos and quick ideas in a physical notebook. I use a pocket Field Notes inside of the passport sized Traveler's Company holder and so far it's been working fine. My biggest problem is that even the passport size is a little too big. I have an insert that adds a small pocket with four card slots so I can use it as my wallet as well. I've been forcing myself to make it work because of convenience but at the end of the day it's just a little too big. Enter the notebook card anniversary set.

For it's 20th anniversary Travelers Company released a limited edition tiny boi! It's a smaller notebook holder made with the same quality leather and it does everything the larger one does, but in a smaller footprint. Of course, this means that the notebook itself is smaller which could be annoying but I think having a smaller footprint makes up for it. From all the videos I've seen it's truly wallet-sized. Unfortunately, it's already sold out basically everywhere. So the hunt continues.
🏮 Snow Peak Micro Hozuki
I go camping with my family basically every summer and a few years ago someone had the idea to string up a bunch of lanterns around the campsite so that we can find our way around at night. I'm sure that's camping 101 for plenty of people, but that blew my mind. It's practical and cute af. The perfect combination. So these mini lanterns from Snow Peak caught my attention because when Snow Peak makes something, they take no shortcuts.

They're small lanterns that you can string up, use as zipper pulls on bags, or even just keep on your keys for when you need a quick light. I usually only carry a flashlight in my EDC during the winter months as summer gets dark way later, but something like this still gives summer vibes. Plus, it's small enough that I can just leave it on my keys and it won't get in the way.

I have a hot take. Everyone wants to spend less time using their phone, but I think people really just want to spend less time on social media. The phone is a gateway to a lot of things and internet discourse is unfortunately one of them. It seems like everyone online is either an idiot or intentionally trying to troll everyone. But that's just what it seems like. I love me a good interactive essay and this one puts in perspective something that we all know but never really think about: most people aren't politically extreme.

I highly recommend going through and doing the exercises yourself, but the essay points out that a very small percentage of people with the most extreme views get the most attention. It makes you think they are representative of a certain viewpoint, but they're not. They're the minority. The analogy they used really drove the point home. It's like if you walked into a bar of 100 people, but the two people arguing in the corner were given microphones.
